The 4.7 is a awsome in a dakota, it's a dog in a 1500 Ram quad cab, only because a 1500 ram is packing more pounds, if your worried abought towing, mileage, performance, go with the 5.7, if your looking for baisc no frills driving, the 4.7 can do the job.

One of the things the HEMI has is the DOD= Displacement On Demand... It actually gets better gas mileage on the highway then the 4.7L... I Think it came out in 05 models... I have the 4.7L and its fine in power for what i use it for... Just be gentle and it will respond... My friend has the HEMI and he does average about 20-22 highway here on Long Island...
If you do want the DOD though, Chevrolet has it in most of its new cars and the new SILVERADO, Tahoe, Suburban and Avalanche.

The 4.7 is a great engine. It has plenty of power, and will get any job done that you need. Most people who want the Hemi are more interested in additional power. The average truck buyer, however, doesn't really care as long as the truck gets the job done. I know many on here are saying it's only roughly a $900 upgrade to get a Hemi, but that isn't necessarily true. Every Dodge dealer in my driving distance (which equals to 12 dealerships) all sell the Ram's that have Hemi’s a couple of thousand more than those equipped with the 4.7.

I drove the Hemi, and quite honestly, I'd rather have my truck. My truck looks as good, rides as good, and performs all of the hauling and towing that I do without problem...and I paid $2800 less for the truck. It has nothing to do with your "financial situation" as some has said. I could easily afford the payment of a Ram equipped with the Hemi...I chose not to, because the extra $2800 didn't seem to justify the differences in my mind. I pass people at 70 miles an hour on the road just fine. Sometimes I see people with a Ram, and if it says Hemi, I think to myself what’s the point.

Point? It really comes down to your preference.

Get the Hemi. The 4.7 should'nt be a option in a quad cab Ram. As for thre diesel....I tested bothnon MDSHemi and Diesel in the 2500HD, I really did'nt care for the diesel. The Hemi was faster and had quicker throttle responce. The Hemi pulls my 21' bass boat up the Mt. I live on without breaking a sweat and the sound of the V8 is great. I guess if you towed 90% of the time the diesel would be worth it.

Having the Hemi now with my Durango and driving my in-laws 2002 4.7 I would get the Hemi any day. I do not have dod shutdown but my 22 mpg highway at 75 vs their 18mpg is well worth it. The xtra power is sweet too!

I drove a 2007 swb with a 4.7 yesterday and I liked it. I really liked it cuz it was a 6 speed. If they only had a hemi 6 speed 2wd.

Of course the Hemi is going to be faster and have a quicker throttle response than a diesel. That's like saying a strawberry is sweeter than a lemon. The diesel will typically get you better gas mileage, can tow more with ease, doesn't have a huge drop in mpg when you tow, and can run for 250,000 miles without a problem. You can let a diesel idle for 8 hours and it will only use 1/8 of a tank of gas. You can tow a 12,500 lbs trailer and barely feel it. I wish I had a diesel.

My rcsb 2wd SLT hemi ram was 21K out the door and the dealership I bought from had the base model hemi rams as well. I almost bought one for a grand less but opted against it.
