Default 4.7 vs 5.7 hemi

I am looing at buying a new truck here before the end of the month. Does anyone have the 4.7L in their 1500 quad cab 4x4? What are the pros and cons of it. I would think the 4.7 would have to work harder to pull the monster truck which would put more strain on it, especially if i hauled a trailer. Also, is there any known problems with them. I would think that it would also decrease the resale value down the road. WOuld I be better off just buying the 5.7? Thanks

Also, does any1 have any idea of what next months rebates will be for these trucks?

Derek

my dad had the 3.9 v6 in his old truck and it just moved it around...nothing else....now hes got the hemi and it moves it around with power to spare... the mileage isnt that big of a difference maybe 3mpg or so because the engine has to work harder.....if your not too concerned with gas mileage and like a little extra power i would go with the 5.7..

Yeah, I heard that the 5.7 has the MDS, correct me if I'm wrong, and that the 4.7 does not... again, correct me if I'm wrong. What I heard, reading through this forum, was that the HEMI's with MDSsave more gas than a v6 like mine. 5.7 has more power, obviously. And well, I'd get the 5.7 because if you tow, you have more power, and if a "kool Ford orGMguy" pulls up and wants to race... you know you won before you even started. So, in my opinion... the 5.7. Screw this... get the Cummins. lol.

I see no advantage to getting the 4.7. I have it in my 4x4 quad cab and it is gutless. No torque no power. I got a really good deal on the truck is the only reason I bought it. My whole family fits in it so I figured what a kewl family vehicle to go with my chevy 4x4 and my chevy '67 swb beast. It does have more power than the v6 caravan I traded for it.

Mileage wise they are really about the same. I had an 03 4.7 and an 04 Hemi, maybe a mile gallon at best. The difference in power and towing is obvoius. I live in CO and tow 1 or 2 atvs and the mountains is a significant difference. That's why I upgraded in a matter of a year.

Still wasn't enough though cuz my buddy had a diesel......so I got one too.

Resell will DEFINATELY make a difference...people around here didn't care for the 4.7!

Yes, there is only 1 - 2 mpg difference between the 4.7L and 5.7L in most situations. Maybe 3 mpg on the highway. The 4.7 engine has been around longer, has it not? The main thing is just price, but if I could do it all over again, I'd spend the extra money for the Cummins.... definitely. That is currently my plan, waiting for a good excuse to get a mega cab with the cummins. Then I'll have good gas mileage, lots of towing power and better resale.

The hemi is only a $995 upgrade...atleast it was for me. I love my hemi BUT my next truck will be a cummins. Nothing beats a diesel.

Yes, a hemi is only $995 to upgrade, technically, but hard in reality considering my situation at least:

I have a work truck. No options except for the towing package, auto, 4.7 and long bed. If I wanted a hemi everything on the lot came with 20's, power options, and more... which all added up to a hemi being 3,500 - 5,000 more than my truck. I only paid 15,000 with TTL. I consider that a good deal. I couldn't get a deal near that for a Hemi at the time, so it would have cost me much more.
