Default egr valve where and how

Here's my problem. I got ahold of a friends scan tool and checked my truck out seeing the check engine light is on. It says code P0401. egr valve. I went to the local parts store and picked up a chiltons. The stupid thing don't have it in there! anywhere! I already got the new gaskets but don't know where to find the valve. I got an 05 ram 1500 4x4 with the 4.7 in it. I want to try to see if it's just got carbon in it before I buy a new one. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

I don't have an 05, but in all the autos I've ever worked on, the EGR has always been on the passenger side, near the fire wall.

I have a 2004 Hemi Ram. The EGR is right under the air filter box. I paid to have it changed, but now know it is very easy to get to. Should only take about 20 mins to do.

REMOVAL - 4.7L

The electronic EGR valve and solenoid assembly (4) is attached to the rear of the left cylinder head. An exhaust gas routing tube (3) connects the EGR valve to the intake manifold.

[ol][*]Remove electrical connector (5) at top of EGR valve solenoid.[*]Remove tube mounting bolt (1) at intake manifold.

[*]Remove two bolts (4) connecting EGR tube (1) to valve assembly.[*]Remove gasket located between EGR tube flange and EGR valve assembly.[*]Remove two EGR valve mounting bolts (5).[*]Separate valve assembly (3) from engine.[*]Remove and discard metal gasket located between cylinder head and valve assembly.[/ol]

Could a bad EGR valve casue a tick in the engine that comes and goes? NOT a KNOCK but a tick. I can hear it clearly in the cab but not in the engine compartment.

Hi , First time post for me
I've been reading alot on the EGR Valves, seems to be a problem!
I have a 5.7 in a Durango, it Stalls and chugs at diffrent speeds, check engine light is on,(46,000 miles)as far as i've read seems to be the going trend with the egr's.
I had a dodge machanic do a run check on it....EGR what a surprise! (behind cloesed doors, he told me to take it off, clean it, and put on with anew gasket, first before buying a new one?????) I do believe that, By reading the mass post, that its stuck open..
anyone else try this first??
And if you did, did it work?

I've got the same issue. I'm going to try and remove it and clean it first. Any recommended method of cleaning/inspection? Does AutoZone have the gasket or should I just order online? Any help is appreciated.
