i don't feel like going outside and looking at the paper, how do i know if i got the factory tow package? i know it is already wired for a trailer, would this be indicative of the tow package?

It will pull your load but that 4.7 is gonna be working hard, especiallyif you have some hills to go over.

Heck, I tow our 26' Extreme Sportsmaster Travel Trailer with our '02 QC with the 4.7. Dry weight on the trailer alone is 4700 lbs. I load the camper shell with all the kids stuff (bikes, scooters, sports equipment, etc.), two extra tanks of propane, a very heavy camping grill and bbq box, etc. The trailer has it's usual stuff; 2 full tanks of propane and 2 batteries on the tounge, food, clothes and whatever else we need to bring along for the trip. Two adults in the front and two kids anda golden retriever in theback seat. All in all, were probably towing close to 6000 lbs. so I'd say your probably ok with your 26' Sea Ray.....Enjoy it!

thats a negative there ramitone.

edit<<<< looked at the paper and its a 3.55 axle, how hard/expensive is it to change out the gears myself? the wife wants to get a travel trailer next year and the ol' ram is gonna be pulling it. i don't want to prematurely wear out the transmission, it already makes weird noises that dodge can't fix, what should i do. and how heavy of a trailer can i tow before i need to bag it?

Update....

Today I pulled the 26' Sea Ray loaded at an estimated 6200 pounds and the 4.7L V8 had NO PROBLEMS with the load. It didn't feel any different than pulling it with our 2007 Chevy Suburban with the 5.9L V8. I am once again impressed with the Dodge Ram.

HammerZ71

I also found someone I trust at the Dodge dealership that confirmed the 7700 lbtowing capacity of my truck.

Thanks again all for the feed back.

No class IV then it's not factory. Also, mine came with a 7pin plug as well as the 4pinner.

Since you have 2wd, you can just swap out the gears without the need to change any front diff. If you are not mechanically inclined or have never done anything like that before it's way past your league. You need micrometers and feeler guages along with the proper knowledge and tools. I would just pay the $600 or so dollars and have a garage install them. I would get 4:56's if your gonna be towing alot. That will relieve a lot of stress on the other components.
Bagging the suspension has to do with tongue weight. I will step up here and say your gonna wanna bag it with ta trailer that's tongue heavy like that. Your prolly gonna have to upgrade your hitch and install the 7pin brake plug. The bags not only level out your suspension, but it makes your truck work alot less and brake much better. It's just etter overall. Your truck will feel like it's pulling a mountain if the tongue weight is excessive or lifting the back end up even if the trailer is only 3500#'s. I have experimented and it's a funny thing.

Yeah I have a Dodge Ram QC with a hemi with some lame 3.55's...I was towing my boat which is around 4500 -5k lbs and its pretty lame...no power when starting off and you have to get to around 4k rpm to pass somebody.

My towing capacity is 7500lbs, if i upgrade to 4.56's...what would it be?
