That's because each TruTrac carrier runs about $500-$600 depending on the dealer! That's the big expense in your situation.
For the most part, a garage may charge you $1200+/- including parts other than 4:56 gears as they tend to be more expensive(add $200 or so), and a dealer will charge you $1200-$1500+parts

According to the 2008 brochure (which the 2008 has a more powerful 4.7L so I don't know if the rating is different) but a QC with a 4.7L, auto trans and 3.92 axle has a towing capacity of 7300lbs if 2wd and 7050 lbs if 4x4.
The Hemi is 8750lbs 2wd or 8500 in 4x4 with auto trans and 3.92 gears.
how much could a 2007 ram 1500 tow that has 35'' tires magnaflow exhaust, airaid intake, with 3.92 gearing, if I put 4.30 or 4.56 gears in will I raise my tow limit.....I do mostly towing maybe 100 miles a week with out a trailor.....and what gear set would you run????? knowing that I tow more than not
The Hemi has no problem with towing wieght.. I have the damm 3.55s for now..
I tow alot, hauling wood I tow a wood trailer, with close to 2 cords of wood about 40 miles one way.. I use tow/haul no matter what, and if its a heavy load i dirve it with OD off..
I have towed a car hauler, with a honda civic, and another time with a nissan 200sx..
TRAVISJS... you shouldnt have any problems towing if its nice and flat.... if there are alot of hills or if your having to turn alot of RPMs you might want to break it up alittle by taking breaks, and letting everything cool and rest..
Just make sure your downshifting and using your gears going up hills, and down..
you dont want to over heat your brakes.. using cruise help going down because it dont let it run away
Ive hauled around 12000 pounds with mine, I DONT RECOMEND IT..
But it had plenty of Power.. I was around 4000 lbs over the Rating, It was flat no hills, and OD Off... and taking it very very Easy....
It was a Equipment Trailer Trailer wieght alone was 6000 pounds , and a 78 Full size Chevy with 40" Tires....
I DONT RECOMEND anything over 8000 Pounds Hemi.. and 7000 Pounds 4.7
I am planning to tow my wife's Volvo XC-90 from California to Rhode Island. I have a 2003 Ram 1500 with 5.7L Hemi and 3.92 ratio. My problem is finding a flatbed trailer to rent to put the XC-90 on. Uhaul has a flat bed, but the max weight it allows is 4000lbs (the XC-90 is 6050lbs). Does anyone know where to rent a trailer capable of supporting that much weight?
You guys are woosies. I have had 3 dodge rams and I am not afraid to pull anything with it. I have hauled two harleys in the back with a 12,000 lb trailer and reached speeds over 80 MPH. I only got 5MPG, but my HEMI got the job done.
hey bud just 2 give you a heads up, I have an 07 1500 Big Horn edition with the 4.7 & 20" wheels. It says on your paperwork that was stuck to the window when you bought it that the trucks you and I have had 392 gears in them as standard which is true. Truth is that in all 1500s they came standard. If you will read in the section that says optional equipment installed on same paper you will see that Dodge swapped the standard 392 gears for 355 gears. I made the same mistake and thought that was to blame for the gas mileage but in fact the bad gas mileage was caused to to high of gear and it makes the motor lug down. In fact they left the 392 gears in the same truck but with a Hemi instead of the 4.7 when the Hemi didnt need them.
