I got really bored today and decided to clean my throttle body. It looked dirty when I looked through the butterfly valve and I was right. there was carbon and varnish all over the inside of the throttle body and the intake (which i cleaned what i could reach aswell). How did it get so dirty? I expected a little but there was alot of varnish and carbon on there. The truck only has a little over 50,000 miles on it and I've taken excellent care of it. This was my first time cleaning the throttle body and will definitley not be my last.
Heres some before and after shots (crap quality iphone pics and I dont know how to resize):

It was VERY easy to do. I have a CAI so I didnt have to take the hemi hat off.
I just loosened the clamp from the CAI to the throttle body and then unlugged the IAT sensor. I then used an 8mm socket wrench to take loose the four bolts holding the throttle body on and unhooked the sensor on the top, disconnecting it from the intake. It only took me about 7 minutes to get the throttle body off. i then used a wire brush to clean the heavy carbon off and carb cleaner on an old tshirt to get the varnish off. I got the tight spaces with carb cleaner on a Q-tip. WHATEVER YOU DO DO NOT SPRAY CARB CLEANER INTO OR USE COMPRESSED AIR ON THE THROTTLE BODY. The eleectronics are not sealed and are easily damaged. installation was the reverse of the removal. Just torque the bolts to 105 in. lbs or 8.75 ft. lbs.

fyi.... our tb's have a special coating on them you just removed it using carb cleaner I do not recommend using any solvents on the tb use a clean rag and wipe it clean

What is the coating made of? And what does it do? I wouldnt think it would make much of a difference....
