I just bought my daughter a 2004 Passat off of craigslist. So many scumbags post in "your" local section and then you find out the car is 2500 miles away. Craigslist absolutely forbids vehicle sales with shipping. Trust me-that's a scam.

You can find great deals (I did), but it can take time. Luckily the Passat I bought was just listed 15 minutes before I went on-line and the car was 10 minutes away.

a guy tried to scam me on craiglist a month or two ago. i weas selling my tonneau cover for 200$ and he wanted to send me like 2k to transfer over to another account and wanted to give me a extra 100$ or something and then have his "assistant" pick the cover up. so i put a stop to that right away.
