It would be louder if you put it up there but then you would have a ton of resonance in the cab. I like to drive with my cutout open, so I wanted it farther back so I can drive with it open and still be able to talk in the cab.
I have my cutout installed a little after the y-pipe, probably between the dashboard and the passenger seat. It’s not that bad, there is some resonance between around 1600-2200 rpms, but I can still have a conversation without having to raise my voice or yell. It’s still not that bad with the windows open, although if I hit the gas hard, then it gets a little difficult to understand what people are saying.
