Default Improving ride on 3/4 ton suspension

I just bought a 2001 Dodge Ram 2500 and I love it. I think it has the original shocks with 40,000 on the odometer. It rides a little rough which I figured it would, would replacing the shocks improve the ride? If so what is the best brand and type of shock?

yep, I'd go with either Rancho's or Bilstein's. Almost everyone who does raves about the improved ride quality over the stock shocks...

Hammer is a broken record on this topic. But it's the truth.

A 3/4 ton truck always rides rough, but the shocks will improve the ride a bit.

And while your 2001 is technically a 2nd gen I can still say: Welcome to DF.

Hammer, what about my '08 1500 series? i've got 4kmi. Do you think my ride quality will be any better? This truck is stiffer than my short bed Silverado with the Z71 package.

A 1500 almost rides as good as a Caddy. How much smoother do ya want to go? Anyways I am a fan of Blisteins...

'Dog, remember, a chevy is made for ride. When you bought a dodge, you sacrificed a little ride for a helluva better truck. im just saying... lol

How much money do you wanting to put into fixing your rough ride? If money's no object you can install a full air-ride suspension that can be aired down to ride nice when empty and aired up for heavy loads. I was looking at doing front and rear air-ride on my 01 2500. Just couldn't pull the trigger on a $4000 bill.

More than likely a new set of shocks will help but your truck will never ride like a Chevy with its IFS.

Well, my chevy was short wheelbase, short box reg cab. It had the offroad suspension and it was pretty rough. My truck is smoother per say because it's not a rattle box but the shocks are very stiff and the truck itself bounces all over, but the impact is absorbed.
I was just asking because some of the upgraded shocks with nitrogen or whatever are very quick to respond and can obtain a softer ride quailty compared to stock shocks which need to be super stiff because they are delayed in response time.

Default Rough Ride

I have a 1998 Dodge 2500, Cummins diesel. The ride is extremely rough mostly the rear. Appears to still be stock rear suspension, the truck now has 262,000 plus. I am willing to give up a little load capacity, i mainly need the trucks towing capacity for my boat. any suggestions, is appreciated.
