Default Hemi tick update

Just thought I would share this with everyone since there's lots of complaints about the notorious "Hemi Tick" which i have had since a few hundred miles. it's been driving me crazy to hear a constant knocking sound coming from the engine. (sounds like a knock because the alum. heads) Sounds travels through aluminum much more than cast. Anyways, I have already switched over to Synthetic oil and used 5w-30 and had no luck with qieting the sound down. WHile at Advance Auto, I seen Fully Synthetic Lucas oil stabilizer for 5w-20 and 5w-30 weight oils. I bought 1 qt($15) and 6qts of my Mobil 1 to go with it. I did my oil change the other day and for the most part the sound is gone! It was 90* out yesterday and I could hear it faintly but that's it. The sound went from audible to barely even noticeable. Well worth the $15 IMO, plus it helps with cold starts as well as city driving.
I'm a happy guy now and no noise or even a reduced noise means less wear. Oil pressure guage seemed to float a bit higher than before as well so that's a good thing at idle. I've got an '08 with only 5kmi.

My "Hemi Tick" showed up around 1k miles. However it went away on its own around the 30k mile range. I chalked it up to finally breaking in.... Glad to hear your tick went away, but in my experience the tick was always more noticeable in colder weather.

i don't like that stabilizer stuff, thickens the oil. so you might have closed the gap that causes the ticking, but you might also not be getting oil to critical parts.

Does anyone know what exactly causes the ticking? I once had a spark plug wire have its coating burned off on a valve cover. It has that same "shorting out" sound to it.

It's specifically for lighter weight oils. Actually says right on the label it won't void warranties...???? Anywho, the stuff isn't like 50weight oil like the regular stuff. This actually poured out pretty fast and was much thinner than the normal stabilizer crap that i would never have used.

It's not even a 30weight consistency. It poured as fast as the 5w-30 did. It just has that really stringy nature so it sticks to walls and moving parts.

I do agree with you Feejay, I would never put something like Slick 50 (50weight oil) in my engine because that stuff does turn into wax and clogs up galley holes in the head and can build up in the oil pump. I promise, the Lucas does no such thing. If you were to see and feel it with your fingers, I think you would agree.

HEMI TICK is in the valves. I think the reason is that the Valve guide clearance is to large from the factory.
