I think the ticking makes it sound kinda hot-rodish. It really sounds good when you get on it and its in the 3500 to 4000 rpm range.

There seems to be a lot of ticking going on with some Hemi's, but add mine that now has 13,500 miles on it to the group that does not now have a tick and has never had a tick.

Default RE: Hemi Tick - Update, this just in!

Took my '04 1500 Hemi into the dealer this past weekend for some other service. While there, I asked them to check out the "tick" and make sure it wasn't a problem while I was under warranty (now have 7,500 miles and tick started after 5,000, I think). Was told that the "tick" is the fuel injectors and "considered a normal operating aspect of the engine". They even had some kind of reference code with the word "Hemi" next to it that they compared the inquiry to (which I'm guessing means so many people must have asked about the "tick" that that inquiry is probably in some kind of master service database), but I don't have the number in front of me. I'm no mechanic, but I was convinced it was lifter noise because it's in time with the RPM of the motor at idle, but I guess it could be the injectors cycling in time with the RPM, just as well.

Anyway, hope this is helpful to others with the same questions/concerns.

Thanks for the info. I recently changed my oil back to 5W-30 (recommended weight) to see if it affects the "tick" since my '03 Hemi QC 1500 is experiencing exactly the same thing but it did not have any effect whatsoever.

I am now convinced that as long as it doesn't get any louder than it is that this is, indeed, totally normal for this engine.

It's time for me to finally do some hard 1/4 mile tests to test the theory before my warranty runs out! [&:]

They didn't happen to mention why some of the motors do this and some do not, did they? It looks like, if some, or most, of them do it, then they all would if the injectors were doing it.

BTW, rIntro, believe me mine has been opened up several times, still no tick.

I was kiddin Palm . With all that towing, I know for a fact that you must have opened it up more than once or twice. My engine has been doing that 3 days after leaving the lot. I read everywhere wondering WHY! And I called my dad, he used to own a bee in the late 60's. He said they tick, that's the beauty of it. I trust him. Then again. I wouldn't mind hearing if anyone gets it fixed. It don't bother me. More noise the better.
