what do you mean as much as i want can hang over the grille? i'd like to try to make an insert frame that will fit flush inside the openings (once the horizontal crosshairs are removed). maybe im not understanding what you're saying......

I wanted that same grille then finally settled for my full grille that required cutting all the cross hares out. I agree with everyone on how to make it. But a tip for when you do cut the grille tape off the area around the part you are going to cut so you dont chip up the chome/paint. I made that mistake at first. Also if you out the grille towards the front of the main grille frame you cant see the area were the cross hares are cut. Here is a picture of mine.

well, if you mount the trim behind the grille it would be easier. Would draw a pic but it would be too hard

yea would be easier to mount the screen behind the grille, but then you'd see the holes where the cross hairs were cut. if you made the new inserts flush with the front of the grille frame then it would hide those holes behind it (another reason for the custom insert frame, so that the holes aren't seen through the screen upon closer inspection). the pic below is a similar grille made by t-rex, and requires cutting of the stock horizontal crosshairs for the inserts to mount properly. the frame and flush mounted design hide the holes left from the cutting

well i spent some time this weekend working on this, and then again tonight. its coming along pretty well. ive made alot of mistakes along the way so ive gone through lots of drafts, but its getting better each time. not quite flawless yet, but very close. once i have it as perfect as i can get it i think i'll send the frame off to a laser cutting shop for perfection. but there's definately progress and even with all my drafts and supplies used so far ive still spent less than $50
