Default custom fab grille?

alright, so i've been drooling over this grille for a while now, but i just can't bring myself to spend $900+ on something that's just eye candy. i know this is a popular grille though and everyone seems to love it, but no one seems to actually have it. ive scoured ebay & craigslist with no luck. curious if anyone knows of anyone that has done or is doing a custom fab grille that looks similar. doesnt look like it'd be that difficult for someone that knew something about working with metal. i know t-rex makes a similar grille but those are still $600. anyhow, just throwing this out there and keeping my fingers crossed. maybe somebody knows somebody that knows somebody that makes these in their garage for a smaller price lol. (i can dream)

I can get you one for $150. But you have to pay the $900 shipping. Lol. J/K. Good luck finding someone making something that nice in their garage.

You know, I think you could make that for little or nothing. Get the gutter guard material (that wire mesh) and about 40 1'' long 1/2'' bolts, and a can of black spray paint. take your grille off, not hard, and then take the horizontal bars out (dremel)....

Then cut the gutter material to fill this space. paint it black.
Find some thing plastic stripping or even thin metal and make the lip out of it. Fasten the gutter material to the back of the lip. Drill holes in the lip to put the bolts. insert the bolts and done! The only problem is where you cut the horizontal bars....hmm?

take all of the (--) out

there's several grille inserts on the market that require cutting of some or all of the stock "crosshairs" which i dont mind doing, and the gutter guard screening is easy stuff to use, the problem i see is getting the metal frames just right so there arent any gaps and it follows the overall curve of the grille while hiding the areas that have been cut. but i think i might be able to take this on and save myself a grand, we'll see. even if it turns out to be a complete mess i can always buy another grille and toss the old one. thanks for the ideas guys, got some Lowe's hunting to do for paintable frame materials now

i took a wack at this a while ago. and the mash grill is not the hard part, its the matal that surounds it. if i had a real metal dy-cut i could do it easy. but just a vice and shop tools made it extreamly dificult! ooo....and you have to cut up you grill frame

i think i'll start with the outer frames first and measure and cut several drafts before i hack up the grille. could probably install them with the cross sections still in place, and only cut them out afterwards so they dont show through

you know, you aughta go to the nearest scrap metal shop. Aluminum would work great for the trim. You just need one strait edge, because as much as you want can hang above the edge of the grille, you will only see whats below it.

I might try it one day this week
