Florida just raised their rates as well. They offered two-year renewals at the old rate. Jumped on that like a duck on a June Bug. For five vehicles, I probably saved over a c-note plus the time it takes to visit the tag office.

On the bright side of these registrations increases the CHP is still hiring while every other law enforcement agencies are letting sworn officers go by the hundreds...least our money is going somewhere.

I know here in NY if I wnated to go with Commercial plates then my registration would have been put into a different class and would have been double. WIth passenger plates on my truck, I think i payed $148 for 2 years. i dunno if you have something similar or if trucks are automatically classifed as "commercial" or fleet vehicles and surcharged because of that???

In CT, passenger registration is $85/2 yrs. But for trucks, they have to be registered with commercial (can only be used for commercial use) or combination (can be used for business and/or personal use) plates, which the fees vary depending on GVW. For my truck, I paid $175/2 yrs for combo plates. A few years ago, they did start allowing trucks to get passenger plates if the GVW was less than 6500lbs, I think. But it doesn’t make too much of a difference, because even though you have passenger plates, you still need to pay the combination fees. And there is no point of having passenger plates on a truck in CT, since the only point of them is so that you can drive on the one highway that is passenger vehicles only.

But, $425 for registration would suck big time.
