did you buy your truck new? It might just have been replaced before.

Default Ignition question

I recently purchased a 2002 dodge ram 1500 4X4 from a used car dealer and the blower fan is not working. they agreed as part of the purchase to fix this. When they went to repair it they determined that it was the ignition switch that had an issue (at first I was not sure if that was even possible) but now I am thinking it might be by reading the issues you had with your vehicle. any thoughts on if this sounds like a potential fix? My only concern is the part I found at autozone does not look like the picture that was posted earlier.. I tried calling dodge but ran into the same backorder issue that you are running into. I found the part at auto zone, it also I have never done anything like this before - was it pretty easy to do? I can install a car stereo, and do basic work on vehicles (change alternators, oil, spark plugs etc...) but never anything like this.. any help would be great!

If you are slightly mechanically and electrically inclined then you can do this. Go get the part and swap them out. If it doesnt work then take it back.

Did you have to remove the key cylinder to get the old switch out?

If this ever happens to me, I think Ill say screw it up and install a hidden Acc switch and button somewhere. I did this on my last car, And it was nice, Just flip the switch push the button and voila the truck is started. And watching your friends try to start the truck with the disabled ignition switch and blaming them for braking your nice truck is fun also, lol.

Sorry guys i've been mia for awhile.

Yes you do. It very easy. I happened to have one of those haynes manuals you buy at the auto store and it had a step by step instruction for doing it.

You basically pop the covers off the column and the tilt wheel lever and you can see it in there.
