The tapping you feel is NOT normal. I have 108K on mine (3/4 ton) and it has never done that.
I'm guessing right now that it might be the front drive axle joints. Also may be u-joints, but that usually feels like a vibration as the truck comes up to speed along with a clunk when leaving from a stop (rear u-joints).
Try this----leave the truck in 2wd, in a parking lot or something similar, turn the truck slowly hard right then hard left---just off the steering lock in either direction--so you don't burn up the steering pump.
If you hear a clunking sound, most likely the axle joints are going, I have friends that have had then replaced while still under warranty.
I've already replaced all 5 u-joints on mine due to to wear--if that give you any idea
Hope this might help

I think you have a bad tire on there.
It's been too long to remember, but I remember TANKZ had a problem like that on his truck. He got a brand new set of Baja ATZs on his truck, and it started doing that, except a little bit worse vibration, and he had some speeds that it was really bad. Have to do a search, but I remember him having a problem.
I had new tires put on a car I used to have,on the way home I heard what sounded like a big rock hit the fenderwell hard and then I started getting a vibration, I got out and looked sure enough the wheel weight they just put on had come off. I turned around went back to Tire Discounters and told them to try again. Vibration gone!
Just out of curiosity did you get tires larger that stock or same size?

Mine sounds and feels like a rearend howl. Might be tires, but the noise doesn't change when turning(loading the tires differently), but does vary with speed and appears to be getting a bit louder.
I'm gonna take mine by my dealer after work and let them go for a ride. It's not a balance issue. Rides smooth, just noisy like a bearing or differential.
