what truck do you have a 2500 i hope?
plowing with a 1500 is do,able, but it beats the snot out of your truck

iv been plowing with my 99 2500 for 8 years
iv got a fisher m/m (minute mount) 8'

the v plows are nice, but expensive around $5500
imo, you dont really need a v plow unless your making a living plowing....
plowing banks, parking lots, etc etc
never had any problems with my fisher...best plow out there
and no bulky frame on your truck all year round

my 2 cents

If your plowing with a 1500, you prob should look into a fiberglass blade as they are much lighter and will hack the light use of the 1500's. You just have to plow slower and not try and push entire snow piles or drive into them at 20mph.
If your plowing your personal property only, a 1500 is suitable. 1500 is not made for commercial use at all.

Why do ppl hate v plows? If anything I think there better, All the snow is not having to go across the hole blade which mean you can plow faster and do more in less time. Shop craiglist for used plow stuff. I found a package for around 2k. Had everything you need to plow.

Unless you have a 2500 CTD or just an extra truck i wouldn't do it. I'd never use a daily driver vehicle with plow. Our trucks weren't designed to push snow and undergo that much stress.

They suck at clearing parking lots and most roads. They work well on narrow roads and corners though.

I have a Fisher EZ-V 8.5' V-plow on my 2500. If you have a 1500, the front end won't last 1 season with a V-plow. Mine weighs 950#.

Here is where the V shines...

Depends on what you are gonna do with it.... Is it just for home use? residential? commercial? Plus with what everyone else says, if ur trucks a 1500... Snoway and western have the poly blade plows for light duty... if your doing just ur own home and a few houses then a 8' straight blade will be fine... I would suggest a v-blade if your doing commercial lots... they are much better with stacking and moving large piles of snow in shorter time... Western and Fisher are both great plows... boss and blizzard plows are also good but IMO not built as strong...

Howdy neighbor! lol well actually not a neighbor but were close enough to understand what snows like up here in northern NY, I put water in last year around your area last summer!

Now I want to know why those that think V-plows are terrible at plowing... Not to pick on ya but they are much faster and with the weight they OUT plow any straight blade.... they are way better at plowing open commercial lots because anyone with a straight blabe knows after a good snow fall and a few swipes you have to change the direction just because the snow is to deep and tends to push your truck sideways... V-plows can take the hight banks and push them (stack) without the headache of going over and over to clean up the snow thats spills off the sides of your straight blade... When I plowed I regreted buying a straight blade after 2 good storms up here in NY... If I get one again I will buy a fisher or western v-plow...

Sorry I'm going to have to fight you on that one. V plows are better than a straight blade hands down. (In most case.) A V plow will do just as good as any straight blade. There easy to punch throw drifts and banks cause the snow load is cut in to and not having to go across the hole blade. You can move more snow with a V than a straight blade. You can carry snow which makes clean up easyer than a straight blade. No boss or meyers fan on here? Once agin I'm on the outside. lol.
