Default Accessories don't work with cigarette lighter outlet

My 2006 RAM SLT has both a cigarette lighter and a separate accessory 12V outlet. The accessory outlet works (provides 12 volts) when I plug in an accessory; however, even though the cigarette lighter works (the element heats up when pushed in), when I try plugging in an accessory in the cigarette outlet the accessory doesn't work (no power). Any thoughts on why this might not work for accessories?

Thanks

I wonder why they made it that way? It used to be in cars/trucks the cigarette lighter receptacle could be used as an accessory outlet.

"Turn the ignition switch to the 'Run' position. Check for batt voltage at the fused B (+) fuse in the integrated pwr module, if ok, then ck the back of the cigar lighter outlet shell center tap for batt voltage." Main step, turn the ign switch on.

They hooked it that way so if the operator used the port for an accessory outlet, say a coffee cup warmer, and if forgotten, it would not set all day toasting.

Both the ones in my truck work for anything. Power is power. One is switched, one isn't.
