Default Octane Booster

I just bought a 2003 Dodge Ram 1500 and I've heard the HEMI is supposed to be run on 89 Octane. At work I can get free fuel but it is 87 octane. What could I use for octane booster to get it to 89 octane or 91? Planning on Superchip, CAI, and possibly exhaust would this be possible without filling up on premium?

Welcome to the forums:

You might be able to get it up to around 89 with the pour-in stuff, but if you plan on running a 91 or more tune, you had better buy hee right fuel.

Most of that "Octane Booster" stuff you find in the stores is junk. Doesn't work as advertised. Like he said above, you might be able to get it close to 89. But, I doubt it. I would just pick up a couple extra shifts at work and buy the higher octane at the pump.

I have an '08 ram, and I know that it can run 87. However, I'm quite particular about using higher octane gas, for the sole purpose of better mileage. I only use CHEVRON 92 or 94 because of Techron.( Unless I have no other option, then I go to the closest gas station, and buy thier premium) This discovery of mine was recent, but I noticed a gain in my mileage of about 15-20 % ! My reasoning is this:
1) The better gas makes more power, so my engine has to work less throughout the rpm range using lighter throttle pressure
2) The higher octane fuels 'vaporize' better, increasing efficiency.

Feel free to correct me if you feel the need, or tell me what you know.

That would be correct. They burn more efficiently. That's why you see an increase in mileage.

Sorry, I'm kinda baked, and after reading this i realize it makes no sense.

To clarify, what I mean, let me re-word it. My engine does the same amount of work, using less fuel.<-- Better? Lol

Yes, that makes more sense, and was what I was saying. Just in other words. LOL.

I'll tell you this.......in my GSXR I ran the highest octane I could buy. One time I put half a bottle of octane booster in my tank, yeah.....that was a huge mistake. I'll put it to you like this.......it gummed EVERYTHING up. But that was a high performance bike engine, different than a truck engine. But, I still wouldn't run it, I just don't think it makes that big of a difference.

Now, a for sure, cheap, hp gain.......E3 spark plugs. They improved MPG's and gained a few horses. Not a bad investment. LOL.

And no, I don't work for them. N no, it wasn't a senseless plug. Well, ok, I guess it was. But hey, if it works tell the world about it. Or at least that's the way I feel about it.
