Question Catback exhaust

I especially love it when I unhook the trailer and I get to drive my truck around by itself, it sounds great and the throttle response is awesome! Took me from my typical 14 mpg to 16-17 mpg. The only thing that don't like is that the tips have turned gold (from the exhaust heat) and I liked the chrome.
With the Mufflex/Magnaflow kit has anyone else noticed their exhaust tips turning gold? I have a Magnaflow catback on my Wrangler and the chrome exhaust tip did the same thing, turned gold after about 2 months.

I'm considering buying the mufflex setup, but have been torn between the 14 and 18. I've noticed that Magnaflow is generally calmer or cleaner sounding then the Flowmasters I've used in the past on my Jeep. I'm not going for obnoxious but I want to know the engine is running and hear it when I step on the gas. Haven't decided if I'm keeping the resonators or not, I really like the stock exhaust tips.

I went to the Spintech page, I gotta tell ya, for the price I bought some Cherry bombs for my old chevy pickup, full duals no headers just ramhorns. I have to say they sound better than the Spintech, you might as well just go straight pipes. Anyway, it is very aggressive that Spintech sound, seems to sound better on the older Chevelle, I liked that sound but the Saleen...something wasn't right there, JMHO.

What performance gains have you seen? Should I get a CAT back or would it be just as benneficial to replace the muffler and the stock y connection?
