Angry 09' & 10' rear end issues

I just read the national news on my droid and the NHTSA is investigating the 2009 & 2010 Ram 1500 for the rear end locking up. There has been 12 reports and some have crashed. There is no recall yet. It involves approx. 230,000 trucks. They do not know yet if it involves 2wd or 4wd. Also, they do not kmow yet if it involves the 3.55 or. 3.92, that basically covers it. You can google for more info.

Lots of people have posted on forums talking about this - I think about it happening to mine almost every day. Hopefully they do something about it so people don't have to worry about putting themselves/family/friends in danger.

Huh? There are 12 trucks involved and no one knows if they were 4wd or 2wd, or what gears were in them?

And the only way for them to know anything is for you to report it to the NHTSA.

Whenever you have a safety or mechanical issue with your vehicle that is not within the norm....REPORT IT!

Just like the Tie Rods, snow/ice on the gear selector, etc.....

2010 TRX4,
You beat me to it and I just posted on this. Whoops.

Anyways, yeah this happened to my truck and I was going about 45 mph. Luckily I was able to pull over safely and get out of the way. Rear was completely locked up and the pinion bolt came lose and also broke the drive shaft. Would have been between 4-5k to fix but the dealer covered it. I have the 2009 RAM 1500 Crew Cab 2wd.

I also submitted a complaint to NHTSA this morning. You definitely don't want this happened driving on the highway at 70mph. Here is a link to the investigation:

So, you see. They opened an investigation after only 12 people sent in a complaint report. How many did not? Must be more lockups than just the 12 I would think.

Nothing gets done without people doing something about it.

The squeeky wheel gets the grease.....

I thought there was a recall on the pinion nut coming loose on a certain line of trucks?

Sport, I read the article on autoblog. That is what it said, you would think they would know if is 4wd or 2wd etc. It is good we are getting the info out there, even if we post on top of one another.

Jumbo, did you say 4-5k? Oh man, I have a year left of warranty, I hope they issue a recall, as much as I hate to say it. In the autoblog article a guy just like you was driving 45mph, differential seized, and launched him into a jersey barrier.

Why would your warranty be expiring? That falls under the powertrain warranty...
