Default 2013 Big Horn

Fuel mileage is in your right foot!! I've never had less than 28 miles to the gallon on the highway yet. I live in Canada so i work in klicks and litres. My computer read out on a trip from Vancouver to Kamloops and return (7 hrs or over 700k) is 10 per 100k.(28.5 miles to the gallon imperial) I drive 100 to 110 periodically up and down hills and there is a lot of hills. I have 40,000 kill on this crew cab and love it so far.

Default 2014 Ram Big Horn now at 27663 miles+fuel consumption

The last ten tanks yielded the following fuel mileage (descending): 21.15, 19.54, 18.57, 19.63, 20.00, 18.36, 19.85, 19.40, 18.64, and 19.10.

These are hand calculated (not computer) readings. This represents the period between July 21st and today (1 Oct 2015). Almost all of my driving during this period was local, with about 15% expressway and the rest around town and rural roads. Average speed ranged between 27 and 32 MPH according to the computer. Average deviation between the computer and hand calculated fuel consumption was -3.61. Average fuel mileage was 19.42 MPG. Current lifetime average is 19.01.

Comments:

In June I towed a 9200 pound tractor and trailer to my property 125 miles away in the Southerntier of western New York state. With my 2010 Ram, which was the basic truck as my 2014, except it had the 545RFE transmission (5/6 speed), towing the same tractor/trailer yielded me a 10.21 and a 10.67 for two trips with the truck in the Tow/Haul mode.

In June of this year I again towed the same except my 2014 has the 8HP70 (8-speed) transmission. This yielded me a 14.41 in the Tow/Haul mode.

I also discovered that the 2014 with the 8-speed transmission allows the vehicle to go into the ECO Mode when in Tow/Haul Mode. That was not the case with the 2010 and 545RFE.

Also in June, I recorded my highest gas mileage ever, 24.91 on a trip with an average speed of 48 MPH (state roads, many small towns).

Best regards,
Dusty

I traded in my 2010 Ram 1500 with 119,000 miles on it for my current 2011 Ram Sport with 72,000 miles. Absolutely love the truck and no major issues. Does everything I need and then some. Only real complaint I have is each truck I've owned now, had more interior squeaks and rattles than I'd like. Oh, and the dealerships still suck...

I'm not sure if you read my signature line, but my 1500 is a two-wheel drive with the 3.92 axle ratio. It is also equipped with the shutters that control airflow and has a slightly lower air coefficient than the 2010. It came with low rolling resistant tires (Wrangler S-RAs) and weighs 65 pounds less than my 2010.

Most of you guys are probably driving 4x4 versions with the 3.55 axle ratio and that makes a comparative difference, especially in the terrain I live in and with my style of driving.

Sean, interior buzzes and squeaks would be my only complaint, too. This 2014 is actually worse than my 2010. Loose or poor fitting trim is most often the culprit, although creaking from the instrument cluster and center stack is the worst in colder weather, and that's a design problem.

130,000 miles. Everything works except the puddle lights. Paint looks shiny and no rust. My interior looks clean and intact, no squeaks or rattles here. It does smell bad though -- no fault of Dodge (It's the dogs). No oil consumption, rattles or ticks from the engine.

Just changed out the shocks, struts & front coils, and a new battery due to mileage/age.

Next target is 200,000 miles. Then it's decision time. A new truck or start all over again on the maintenance for this one. I guess it depends on how well it holds up...

Default 4th Gen Ram High Mileage Report

Conversed with a fellow back in January that had a 2009 Hemi Quad Cab with 194K on it. This would be the third high mileage (over 150K) Ram owner I've encountered. As I recall he had short list of items replaced: tie-rods, A-arm bushings, brake calipers, drive belt pulley & belt. No other engine problems and the 545RFE tranny hadn't been touched except for a filter and fluid change. He did say he had had water leaks around the back window and the heat/defrost control had a mind of its own.

Regards,
Dusty
