Exclamation Transfer Case Click

Alright, so today I noticed every so often a click coming from underneath the truck... no pattern. Just here and there when I stopped or started...

I crawled under and started yanking on this and that... I tugged on the drive shaft close to the tail end of the transfer case and found the clicking... it's not a U-joint. The shaft has a tony bit of play and the clicking clearly comes from somehwere in the case.

Anyone else heard this on their truck?? What are your thoughts? Tommorow I'll be calling the dealership.

Don't call them just show up you give them a chance to come up with some bs reason but if you surprise them they actually have to check your truck.

Do you have the 244D transfercase? I have a Laramie myself and the 244D transfercase, I was looking to lift it but even Supelift does not advise lifting my truck, something about the 244D being a weak transfercase. Hope you get your truck fixed.

I crawled underneath the old girl and found the tag on the transfer case... its not the 244D. I've got the 246D. Theres a little circle shaped red and silver tag tacked to the housing...

I found out the answer there is only two. and they do not list a 244D, are you sure you read your tag right? Here is the info I found....Two transfer cases are available: the NVG 243, which enables part-time four-wheel drive operation with a two-speed gear system; and the NVG 246, which enables an on-demand four-wheel drive system, also with a two-speed gear system. Both transfer cases are engaged with a dash-mounted switch.

Yep there's two transfer cases, one has the 4wd auto feature and the other doesn't. All laramies have 4wd auto to my knowledge and some early sport models have it but I think only laramie models have it now.
For some reason there is some kind of problem with lift kits on models with the 4wd auto transfer case
