Hello, I have a 09 RAM 1500 CREW CAB SLT 4X2 5.7 HEMI 3.92 axle ratio. I wondered if anyone has the same setup that has or can recommend a truck camper/model's that this truck can handle. I've read about the lower 2009 load #'s and change in the 2010 #s towing ratings, so I'm a little confused on what the true payload and GVWR (says 6800 on the door) of the 09 trucks are?

I have a similar set up and have been seriously considering getting one, mostly because they are so inexpensive and light. Should be no problem with the 1/2 ton, although you will have some overhang because of the xtra short bed, but not too bad. Good luck!

I just bought 2010 ram 2500, And I had 2004 Chev. 1500, I have a 2008 Lance 825, It is built for 1/2 tons, we put air bags on to help with the sway, Camper weight is 1755lbs dry. truck pulled camper and 2 jet skis ok.

 

For some reason dodge puts that is most of their trucks including the 2500 and 3500. It's funny how they tell you your truck is not recommended for a slide in camper then go on to show you how to load it. By the way, I got one of those with my truck also.

 

It turns out it's the plow prep package that triggers the "not recommended" for the 2500 and 3500's. I talked with the local dealer and he said you can't run the a snow plow and camper together. Snow plows end up having ballast added in the rear of the vehicle.

 

My 2010 long bed dually with 409 cubic inch Cummins diesel hauls the 4,000 camper so easily you almost don't know it is there.
The camper is comfortable for one person and my two dogs on my trips from SC to NY and
I have had my girlfriend spend a few weekends
in the camper.
Even though it has a slide out it is still a bit cramped,
I am amazed they can fit all that stuff in the back of a pick up.
I haven't seen a slide in used in a short bed but I have a feeling it will be very cramped for space.
The slide in offers a lot of advantages over a pull behind but,
I don't think I could handle living in it for a month or more so I am planning to get a 5th wheel for a two month trip next summer.
I honestly don't think I could handle living in a T/C for a few weeks or a month

Maybe if you are going to be out hunting all day
and are just looking for a warm place to sleep and are moving up from sleeping in a tent it will be a big step up

The table converts to a bed so you can fit 4 people but even two adults and two small kids would be crazy.
