When to wax your new truck
#11
Why vehicles don't come to the dealership with wax on them the dealer may wax it before you take delivery on it. It just depends on the dealer. Many out there may remember the days of space age polymers and Polyglycoat that the dealers wanted you to buy to protect the finish. Some of these added sales gimmicks had warranties with it. Just a way for the dealer to make extra money off of you. And don't forget the rustproofing gimmicks like Zeibart. Been there and done that.

As others said, you can wax any time. By the time you get the truck the paint has had plenty of time to cure.
Keeping a nice coat of wax on the truck will help keep crap from sticking to the surface and creating that "rust" many complain of, which is really particles on top of the paint rusting. Of course weekly washing will usually take care of this as well.

I wonder if having another layer of wax on top of the clear coat is really needed. It seems to me that the wax is soft and that crud would stick to it easier than to the clear coat. So if you claybar first, then wax you're ok. But say you don't remove the crud stuck to the wax and put another layer of wax on top, what do you have?, layers of wax and crud. Not trying to start a war here, just thinking.

I have found that multiple back to back coats of wax seems to have no effect on the depth of a shine. But what I have found is there are some "spray on enhancers" that seems to make the shine that much brighter/deeper after waxing. Zaino's grand finale spray is one of them.

I have had several new cars and the paint was rather rough, new from the dealer. I clay barred them and put two coats of turtle wax ice on them once a year. After the first time clay barring, every year after that they didn't really need it, just the wax job. And the rain still beaded up good when I rewaxed them after a year.
