Hi, i just got a 2011 1500 SLT with the 4.7 with 14k on it. and lately i have noticed it making some noises when it's in OD and you are slowing accerating between 40-60 and the noise is louder when i'm towing my boat. Been to the dealer twice and they tell me it's normal since they say they drove one of the other 4.7L they have on the lot and it did it as well. Dealer said it was probaly the exhaust resonations. Just wondering if anybody else has this problem, truck drives and acts totaly fine it's just very annoying. Oh all noise goes away if you use the +/- and put it in 4th.

It sounds like when your are driving a stick and it's in 5th and your going to slow and try to accelerate.

 

Where are the sounds coming from and what are they sounding like. I have my assumptions as to what and where. Just trying to get some clarification.

Also I don't think we have many people with the 4.7 around here. At least not as many as people with hemis. So just try to patient if you don't hear correct answers right away!

 

Sounds like its coming from engine compartment area , reminds me of like a loose heat shield. like i said it only starts if it's in OD and your slowly accelerating. If you get on the gas and make it downshift or you use the control on the shifter to downshift it goes away. My friend has a 09 4x4 with hemi and it does not make the noise.

 

Start reading about the torque converter issue, that might be it. There is a star case for it. It will happen regardless of tow mode or not. Mine sounds worse in tow mode when towing our camper, especially around 1500 RPM. MANY torque converters are being replaced...

 

The symptons on star case S1121000005 is exactly what mine is doing. I called the customer service line and started a case on it, rep asked if I had took to a dealer and if so what dealer. Soon as I told him I got a long pause and he asked if there was another dealer in the area and if so to take my truck to them.

Sounds like he was hinting around that I should find a new service provider.

I just was told today that my 4.7 needing replacing because it was knocking real bad. He said I fell under the lifetime power train warranty though. Thank God

 

Where are you located at...? What dealership were you going to go to, and why did the rep ask you if you could take it to another dealership...??? Sounds like to me, the rep has delt with the dealership you told him about and has had issues with them and wants you to go to another one. Just curious about this... maybe the rep is seeing the first dealership as to replacing too many convertors and they dont like them doing that because it might not be fixing the vehicles they are doing this to. (HUHHHH....????) Some dealers hear a noise and just assume its the torque convertor when it might not be. Seen it a million times... misdiagnoised at incompetant dealerships.

 

I went thru the same issues with my 2010 4.7 slt. dealer said it was probably exhaust noise. star case s1121000005 describes noise problem. Long story short ,I added lubeguard supplement during tranny oil chg and problem has never returned.
