To me, spacers are still a better choice since it is cheaper and won't affect the ride quality of your rig. Unless you are planning to go off-roading, you may not notice a difference.
+1 on the bilstein 5100's. Adjustable lift struts. I believe procomp also offers a lift strut, the pro runners but they are not adjustable and static at 2.75". Bilsteins you can set at .7", 1.4", 2.1", 2.8".
You would want a lift shock over a spacer. Why you ask, because the stock shock is a cheaply made twin tube design. Bilsteins and the Pro comps are high quality monotube shocks that are high pressure nitrogen charged. Your ride will be greatly improved over stock shocks. I upgraded my rear shocks and used Fox 2.0. Bilstein also makes 5100 for the rear.
