2012 Ram 1500 5.7 Hemi Idle Issue
I have a 2012 Ram 1500 5.7 Hemi, that has just over 42,000 miles. In all gears I have a rough idle, and a rolling vibration. The RPM gauge will also consistently move between 400 RPMs and 900 RPMs when this issue is happening.
I also have issues with throttle response. If I give the truck some gas on the highway, and I have been at a consistent speed for a while, it feels like it is finding the wrong gear. It will catch a lower gear and start to speed up, but then catch a higher gear and lag. Then I have to give it more gas, and it will finally find a lower gear and speed up. I know the MDS is an issue, but have also been told that there could be a transmission issue. Please help. I feel like driving the thing off a cliff.

sounds like you may need to re-calibrate your throttle pedal...
1) Insert ignition key and turn to "ON" (not start).
2) Wait for all idiot lights to go out. Check Engine Light may remain on.
3) Slowly depress the accelerator pedal all the way to the floor.
4) Slowly release the accelerator pedal until it's all the way back up.
5) Turn the ignition key to "OFF".
6) Start the engine.

I have a 2010 Ram 1500 Hemi and my ETC started acting up to the point of 2000 rpm max so I replaced it. I calibrated the unit by disconnecting the ground for a couple minutes, reconnect, key on 10 seconds, key off then start. Started right up idle went nuts 1500-3500 then settled down 1500 rpm but NO throttle response with brake pedal depressed, release rpm shot up to 3000!!! Did this procedure several times same result..... So I signed up to the forum and found your response, worked first time! Again THANKS!

Every once in awhile I while see a couple hundred rpm flutter when I get home from my 1/2 hour commute and its idling in driveway before shutting it down. Might try that solenoid. The truck has about 88k on it and while commuting in ECONO it does the the funky little shudder just before it kicks out of econo, I have got in the habit of shifting it to 5th and not using econo and its GREAT gets 15-16 mpg around town that way and when on the highway with the cruise and in drive its not very noticable and gets about 19 mpg. Have heard stories about the lifters that are bleed off or whatever they do to shut cylinders down will start have issues at about this mileage. Any truth to that? Or is it something else? I swear sometimes I hear a ticking noise that quickly goes away, maybe a solenoid? Absolutely LOVE the truck

Has this been addressed by your dealership at any point? Has this shuttering concern just presented itself, or has it been ongoing for a while?

Should this be done every now and again?
