Default Short bed 5th wheel advice?

I never used a 5th wheel before, but we want to get a 5th wheel camper. I don't know anyone who has one personally, but I asked a few people at the campsight and they were either 1. clueless, or 2. mentioned something like the B&W RVK3400 or Pullrite Superglide which is about $2000 installed.

I did some searching and found some recommended hitches, but I don't know why it makes sense to spend $1500-2500 on a setup when there are several approximately $500 setups that seem to get good reviews.

I wanted to ask though. Anyone see a problem with just going with a sliding fifth wheel CURT 16516? Amazon has them for $480 with free shipping, plus $65 for the mounting brackets. All the reviews I find online are very good, and I've had great luck with Curt products in the past. I need a slider because I have a short bed.

I read some poor reviews on the cheap Reese hitches, but the Curts only seem to offer glowing reviews. Any thought certainly appreciated.

I know its not good to just go cheap for the sake of being cheap, but it also doesn't make sense to overpay for something!

You are planning on running a 5th wheel on a Ram 1500? What kind of pin weight has that 5th wheel got? Pin weight is typically 20-25% of the total trailer weight, which is why you don't see half tons pulling them.

No sorry. This is on a 4th gen 3500 srw. Is there a different forum for 3/4 and 1 tons? I don't see one.

no problem using a short box, there is many products out there to work for you.
http://www.pullrite.com/products/isr...standard-rails -- I'm using the 16K unit and love it. You don't have to get out and pull the handle it slides back 16 inches as you turn. I tow 7700 lb. 5er -- http://prntscr.com/7expe1 --

Some of the new 5th wheels have the Reese evolution -------

There are options for you and you can convert to one of these pin boxes if the 5th wheel doesn't have one. I got the Pull-rite for half price because no one would buy it,, everyone in this neck of the woods went for the regular slider hitch,, but you forget once, maybe pulling into a tight spot for gas for example and now you have a damage cab. I use Timbren SES suspension http://timbren.com/ in stead of air bags. If you have any other questions I'll try to answer. E trailer are great for advise http://www.etrailer.com/

Yes Curt hitches are a great choice.

Hope some of this helps
Cheers

Happy Rving

Nope, but that makes more sense. Might want to add the 3500 bit to your signature as I'd bet 95% of the folks here have 1500's
