Default Question about towing

I have a 2010 Ram 1500 crew cab with a short bed. It has a 4.7 liter engine. I've owned it for 1 1/2 years. My engine has 53,000 miles on it.

I'm looking to tow a trailer for a long distance move (Alaska to Florida) and need some advice. The U-haul site says, if I'm reading it correctly, that my truck should be able to pull the 6x12 foot trailer. I would like to get some verification of that and any towing advice you think I might need. I've towed a few times before, one time with a Ford 350 diesel (and a husband) and the other was a very small trailer with a mini-van.

I'm taking it in to have a tune up before we leave.

some questions first

1. What axle ratio is on your truck
2. How heavy is the trailer
3. How much weight are you going to load into the trailer
4. Does the trailer have brakes? what type

6x12 trailer is pretty small but the devil is in the details

I can't see you getting enough weight on a 6x12 to exceed towing capacity unless you struck gold in Alaska. But yeah to be sure, the least we need is how heavy trailer plus load is going to be and if you have factory tow package on your truck (frame mounted hitch, etc.)...

Unfortunately, I didn't strike it rich in Alaska.

1. How do I find my axle ratio? The owner's manual doesn't appear to have that information.
2. The trailer is 1920 lbs.
3. It can have a max load of 2480 lbs. Everything I have won't fill it completely, but it will be close. Every box I'm loading I can easily lift and we have only 5 small pieces of furniture. We're getting rid of everything else.
4. The brakes are surge brakes.
5. The hitch is on the frame.

I appreciate the help from both of you. Thanks.

Yeah, you'll be fine. Drive safe, let us know when you arrive at your destination and how the drive went...

Pulled a trailer exactly like that except no trailer brakes from MS to ND with a 2002 4.7 quad cab. In a blizzard and a flood (3/2009). No problem, truck did fine.
