I sent the owner of BAK Industries, Julian Maimin, an e-mail and referenced this thread. Hopefully he feels a thread that's gone on for over three months and that's losing his company business is important.

If pea to less than marble sized hail didn't harm the truck, it shouldn't have harmed the Bakflip HD. That's how I'm judging this claim.

A co-worker of mine ordered a bakflip from a local shop, said he wanted just the normal plain one, (should be a g2) and got one that looks like it's aluminum, not plastic. Is there a way to tell between the HD and G2 anywhere on the cover other than the material? I was considering ordering one just because I like the way they fit flush with a very low profile, but I do not want the HD as we get a fair amount of hail where I live, and by the sounds of it these aren't very HD when it comes to that at all....

Easiest way to tell would be to scratch off some of the coating from the underside of a panel. Otherwise it's going to be pretty hard to tell.

This right here (ordering one thing and receiving another) is reason enough to not buy from this company. I'd recommend ordering the Mopar cover or an Undercover.

I have the Undercover. I'm really pleased with it.

will you post a pic of the undercover? I'm in the process of looking for a cover and am looking for anything other than the bakflip after this forum... right now it looks like I'm going to go mopar, since they are the only other option I've seen comparable to the bakflip.

There are pictures here. The undercover isn't really the same sort of cover. It's more of the traditional 1 piece hard tonneau that sits on top the bed.

Can't really tell from the description and there's zero info on the web about this "F1". I asked for a clarification on what this would cost me if I accepted, although I doubt I'd be willing to give them much of anything over the $800+ I already spent for the cover I have now.

BTW - still havn't heard back from Bak with exactly what they were offering. Been a whole week, but maybe they don't answer emails during SEMA

Here is a quote directly from their website... use it against them

http://www.bakflip-tonneau.com/features.asp?tabid=2

"The BakFlip is designed to perform in extreme temperatures. Since the panels are impact resistant, they cannot dent, so even hail is not a problem"

And for the record... Bakflip you suck! I was going to buy one as well until I read this thread. Think of all the business you lost because of your poor customer service.

Hopefully the emails of everyone and references to this thread have helped old jeep. I definately think that if you're getting screwed by a company, that it can always be persuasive to inform them that you're active on a auto forum that attracts over 110,000 unique visitors a month. Of course they can always stubbornly ignore you, but it will eventually turn around and bite them in the hind end.

I would go so far as to recommend making this a sticky or creating a blacklist of companies that pull this crap. There's always another company with good customer service just waiting to take their place.
