I doubt the majority of people who buy NEW cars dont end up keeping them more than 4-5 years anyway... especially people who have money and buy the $50,000 (high profit) versions..
I wonder what the average ownership time is of new vehicles

3 time new dodge ram owner...Love my truck now but when its time to say goodbye I will be buying from a local dealer and since Chrysler decided here in centeral Texas were rams are at least 2 out of 5 trucks you see that we didn't need a dealer or service department within a 100 mile round trip I will be driving something else that has a support base close enough that I don't have to take 2 hrs off work to get there before they close, I wonder how long the roadside assistance would take if I ever needed it?
the point is that you cannot make something to last "forever" so why should they be expected to stand by it "forever"
The company I work for builds Boats...There first boat was built in 1929...guess what..it is still in top notch condition running the original motor....So how is that different then a new truck..besides the whole water thing..and no wheels.....if a yacht can last that long why not a truck..and we still stand by the product even though no one at the shop built it.
but whats the upkeep on a yacht compared to the upkeep on a truck?
over 50 years... which one would require more effort/cost to keep in top shape?
