Chrysler drops lifetime warrantyAugust 19th, 2009 by DaveAdmin
Chrysler is dropping its lifetime warranty from 2010 models, though it will remain on 2009 models. Instead, the company will provide a free 5 year, 100,000 mile powertrain warranty, which, instead of being transferable, is assigned to the car itself, so that anyone who buys a used 2010 Chrysler, Dodge, or Jeep second-hand, third-hand, etc., can get service without having to transfer the warranty.

The new 5/100 plan has no deductible. It is accompanied by the usual basic 3/36 warranty, 5/100 corrosion, coverage, and extendeded Federal emissions warranty.

Exceptions to the new warranty plan are the Sprinter (assembled by Freightliner from Mercedes kits), diesel-powered trucks, Sterling trucks, company car vehicles, Volkswagen Routan, and Mitsubishi Raider.

SRT vehicles and fleet vehicles (including police, postal, ambulance, and taxi) were not covered by the lifetime powertrain warranty, but will be covered by 5/100.

The change may have been spurred by the costs of paperwork and tracking of older vehicles with the lifetime warranty, and by customers’ cynicism about the lifetime plan.

What is the overall satisfaction of the lifetime warranty (or any of the warranties for that matter)? Has anybody had any trouble with coverage if you do your own oil changes or installed a leveling kit? I see by some of the pics on this forum that some have installed lift kits so I assume they are still covered by warranty. I just purchased my first Ram (09 Quad Cab) after 13 years with a Toyota. I love this truck so far.

Lifetime warranty just gives me peace at mind.

I know I won't need to spend money on a tranny rebuild if something happens 100K or 200+K miles.

Still, the 5 year / 100K Miles is still better than 5 Year 60K or less.

I guess with the lifetime they told me I needed to have the truck inspected every 5 years, no charge, just to keep the lifetime warranty. If and when I do my own changes it's best to keep receipts for oil and filters and jot it down in a ledger somewhwere, that was what I was told by the last dealer.

With that lifetime warranty\
If you took and lifted one and put some 40s on it would that warranty still work.

I asked my new appionted dealer about service records from my cut dealer transfering over and he said only the warranty records transfer over, that maybe a problem since my truck has no record of service for the first 15000 miles now, I will raise cain if that is the case because they are at fault that little issue IMHO
