Default tailgate cable

Does anyone's driver side tailgate cable have a lot of slack in it? My passenger side cable is tight, but the driver side seems like it's about an inch too long. The dealer said it was normal, but I'm not so sure. The gate doesn't sag to the left, but the added stress can't be good for the other cable.

Yes, mine is the same way, but not 1'' shorter it's more like 1/4'' on mine.

I think every truck I've seen was this way, I'm sure others will be able to chime in and confirm. There may also be a reason for it, but I'm not sure.

There is slack in mine also. Noticed it the first time I let the tailgate down.

I put one of those damper things on the drivers side slows the tailgate down but might explain why the first one broke shortly after I got it. Right now the passenger side cable is tight when open but like you my drivers has some slack not an inch nor a quarter inch.
I never did like when they switched over to the cables.

Mine was that way.Ordered two new ones.No matter what the combo of new one side was either somewhat loose or very loose.Swapped the two original ones side to side. Now there even.Go figure.Clearance between tailgate and bumper appears ok.

I hate mine. When you shut the gate it always sticks out. I have to open it back up and hold the cable why I hurry and shut it. It's a PITA.

Thanks for the input, I'm gonna try that tomorrow. Hopefully I'll have the same results, because that really bothers me. I'm close to 300 pounds, and I don't want the gate to fall when I'm sitting on it.
