Default difference between 1500 and 2500/3500?

Does anyone know the ultimate difference between a Ram 1500 vs. 2500/3500? Is the only main difference that the 2500/3500's have heavier/stronger rear leaf springs to be able to haul more...hints the "heavy duty"? What are your opinions?

Sorry, didn't realize someone just posted basically the same question... I think what I'm mainly asking is the difference between the 1500 and the 2500. What makes it "heavy duty"?

i think its the chassy. According to my sales rep.....the 1500 and 2500 actually use the same chassy on the 06 models.

the 2/3500's have a fully boxed frame that is WAY stiffer than the 1500's. plus heavier springs. on the non mega cab's the front suspension of the 4X4's is IDF, the 2/3500's are solid axels. the mega cab 1500's have the exact same frame and axels as the 2500's, but the springs are different. 1500's have AAM 9.25 rear axels and I think an 8 inch front. 2/3500's and mega cab 4x4 have AAM 9.25 front and AAM 11.5 rears

How about the 2003-05 models the Frame is the difference?? The 1500 is NOT boxed all the way and the 2/3500 are they all look the same under the hood. I know this is a long time down the road but I plan on keeping my 1500 for a long, long time. But I thought that eventually I would swap in a whole V-10 drive train instead of a Hemi. I'm thinking 10 years + down the road I'll do this. It would be different, we use to have a 2500 with the V-10 and it was a monster in the power department, but still got pretty good mileage about 12-15 in town and 15 + on the Highway cruising. From Ft Huachuca AZ up to Phoenix then to Tucson with about 1/4 tank left I'd have to fill back up. I'm hopeing my 4.7 last awhile though.

The chassis are only the same on the 1500 and 2500 mega cab models, Quad cab models still have a lighter chassis and different suspension than the 1500 mega cab which is built off the 2500 platform.
