update..here's something I did that cost me 0 dollars!

was researching how it should be done, removing the side molding.... finally just went out the other day and pulled it off!...it let some little foam sticky lines, but I just "rolled" them off with my thumbs. (I now have blistres on my thumbs!) washed the car and now I got smooth sides.
