Did you replace the gas cap with a Mopar gas cap? It's very common with the Dakotas.

From what I understand, this is also a code that's common.

There's more info on it here: http://www.obd-codes.com/forums/454-...ge-dakota.html

check where the gas cap screws on. look for any corrosion. also where the stem from the tank meets the underside of your bed. do you smell any gas odors at any time?

Open the hood, on the left side of the engine, look for a series of vacuum lines. You will see a cap on a valve with several vacuum lines coming to it. Inspect all of the hoses and replace any cracked ones. Also look at the hoses under the bed that go to the vapor canister. Replace any hoses that are cracked or split.... Very common problem.....

no.. the evap code has NOTHING to do with your a/c leaking freon... if you have a blacklight .. go to the parts store and get some dye to put in.. then run it dry again.. use that black light to find the leak.. more than likely the high side line.. or a fitting needs to be tightened
