Thanks for the replies. I'm thinking electrical over mechanical because the door is smooth and easy to operate manually, and it does fully close automatically. That wiring harness may well be a good lead to chase. It's never been in an accident and has always been meticulously maintained so I am a bit surprised and disappointed this happened. But things do happen, I understand.
