Default Transmission Overheating

Hey guys, just wondering if anyone has run into this problem before.
Went duck hunting last weekend and had to drive on the beach to get there (Assateague Island).
Put the truck in 4HI and was going about 25Mph. about 5-8 minutes into the drive, I felt the transmission slip
a few times and shortly thereafter the transmission temperature gauge came on.

A friend of mine told me that I might need to get a second transmission cooler installed. What do you all think?
Will that help out?

It won't hurt to add an aux trans cooler. I bought one and installed it myself. Figure about 30mins to install if you are a perfectionists. Good luck!

sounds to me like the frt pump is shot., transfer should not heat up while driving at those speeds. also check the fluid level might be low. if the temp guage came on you might want to change fluid.
