Default spark plug heat shield tubes - keep or discard ?

so i changed my plugs the other day and these heat shields make it take about twice as long as it should.
one of mine was all bent out of whack and fell out, so i left it out.
so what do you think, keep them or ditch them ?

advantages of having them.
1. determined to be important by a DC engineer.
disadvantages.
1. harder to work around.
2. they trap sand, dirt, and grease so you have to blow them out before removing plugs

tips.
put anti-seize on plug threads before installing.
smear di-electric grease on ceramic section of plugs before installing, and then put a little dab in the plug wire boot and smear it with the tip of needle nose or screwdriver to prevent them from sticking and being so damn hard to get off.

common sense says HEAT shield.. meaning it will protect your wires from the heat of the block.. when i changed mine.. i took the extra time to change them over to the new wires.. beats trouble shooting a misfire later on and you not thinking its your wires because they are brand new.

havnt had mine since 03' .. runs great no problems!! one thing you have to do if you pull them off... blow out the hole with some compressed air before removing anything else like plugs or wires.. them sheilds really hold and trap in a ton of crap!

exactly how i did it.. vise grips,, wiggled them a little bit then gave them a wicked good yank.. they are just set in there and held in with their own expand tension..

Anybody try reinserted them after they were removed, say with a mallet or something. That way, you could remove them, clean up the area real good, remove your plugs, reinstall the heat sheild, install new plugs, and your good to go.
