RE: location of spark plugs for 4.7 V8
I have a 2002 4.7 and mine can be found on the inside of the fuel railajacent to the valve covers, I removed Throttle body cover and airfilter cover and hose for ease. You are probably looking for the old style thick silicone cable but you won't find that. It's replaced with a 2 wire clip.
The plug connector is held in place by a 10 nut.

Here is a pic taken from the front of my truck, drivers side. I am pointing to where the nut is that you have to take off. This screw holds the coil on the spark plug. After you take the nut off just pull up on the coil and it will come off. Oh and in the pic the stock air box is taken off.

RE: location of spark plugs for 4.7 V8
I hear ya. First time I popped the hood and look at the engine I was like, wtf??
I just changed mine this past weekend. The far back one on the passanger side is a pain, but other than that, it's pretty good. I guess one can't get any type of performance wires or anything for these things? I didn't opt for the platinum or iridium, just plain copper. It cost me the same for 8 plugs as it would have for 2 of the "high end" ones.
