I have a 2000 Dodge Neon right now with a 3 speed automatic transmission. Firstly is it even worth to try and put a 4 speed automatic into a neon or is it just as expensive and pain in the *** to change it like the auto to manual transmission swap is. Secondly, if it is cheaper, will it help my top end at all, the 3 speed seems to not have any "oopmph" past 90 and it seems like a gearing issue, not a power issue. The only reason Id consider swapping to the 4 speed auto, was if it was a cheap enough alternative to going manual and that it would be less of a hassle on the gears for the neon to get up to higher speeds. Let me know what you guys think?? Thanks!
I don't know this for sure. But since you aren't getting responses(its only been 10 minutes) I will say this. I would assume it will be more expensve to do the auto. Auto transmissions are just more expensive than manual transmissions. I'm not sure if neons ever had 4-speed ATX cars. If they did it might not be too hard...not totally sure. Manual transmission swap won't be too fun since you have to put a shifter in the console. Prolly cheaper though
I believe they made a 4 speed automatic in the 03-05 models, so I was thinking maybe I'd be able to use some of the same parts that my 3 speed auto has and just buy whatever else it would need to work, or would i need to buy the whole darn thing,;
im not 100% sure but i think the pcm's of the two years are different. and it would proabably be more cost effective to just swap out the 3 speed auto for a manual transmission.
not worth it...just go manual and get the 5 gears and more power to the wheels....(even if it was more expensive, which its not, it would pay for itself in performance)
