RE: Trans in "limp" mode
your clutch packs are burnt up and harparts in the transmission are getting scored from all the metal particulate in the fluid, time for a rebuild... i did 3 on my 95 cirrus... and just did one on my 01 dakota, mopar transmissions are junk.. make sure when you get it rebuilt by a reputible transmission shop and not a dealership * typical rebuild $1500... dealership will tell you the whole unit is shot and tell you to replace the whole transmission t make the work easier on them, $3000*, when its getting rebuilt, have sronger parts shoved in and a heavy duty torque converter put in place.... and another tip.. then the magnet looks like a porccupine, tall tale sign it's gone, your lucky the car went into limp mode, if i remember correctly, the solenoid pack is turned off which allows second gear to run, and the solenoid unit may have to be replaced if the pan is that full of metal... good luck

That amount of metal on the magnet is hard to quantify, alot of times when wiped off it reduces to next to nothing. While no metal is good , i've driven many for a long time with more metal on the magnet than that. Any reputable tranny shop should be able to test the solenoid pack. They are technically considered non serviceable, but I have heard of the internal screens being cleaned of metal flake to prolong their function..

Transmission problem update:
Which way do the two accumulator piston and spring set(s) go back into the cavities in the transmission case? They popped out when removing the valve body.
see question 3: http://www.glocktech.net/Cirrus/
TIA
