Default engine swap 4.7 to 5.7

I own a 2002 dodge ram 1500 4x4 with a 45rfe trans 4.7l and my engine is dead but the trans is great. I would like to put a 5.7l hemi in it but i need to know if this will work before i buy a hemi. I have been told that all dodge small blocks have the same bell housing bolt pattern, is this true???????

Bell housing should be the same, but you will also need the pcm, wiring harness, possibly motor mounts, and some other things. Shouldnt be too bad of a job though.

Take a nap instead.....

If you took the money that would be involved in buying the engine and all the necessary parts like sensors,ECU, manifolds, exhaust and what notto make it a flawless, reliable vehicle, it would be a nice downpayment on a new Hemi truck.

OR

You happen to come across a killer deal of a wrecked Ram WITH a Hemi already in it. And those days are all but gone, anyway.....

Rebuild the 4.7, would be a lot cheaper, and as you're doing it you can do some things to get added power out of it like cam, headers, etc...
Won't be a Hemi, but it could still be an asskickin' powerfull ride...

I have thought about a rebuild but I am able to pick up a 5.7 hemi for 1800 bucks so I am still headed that way. My last resort is to do a rebuild.

Unless the 4.7 was put into your 2002 aftermarket you had a 5.2 or a 5.9. 2002 options were V6, 5.2 and 5.9.

One of the above posts is correct. You are better off getting rid of your truck, use the money on a new or newer truck.

exactly...the 5.2 was canned in favor of the 4.7

but you'd be better off to rebuild it or put a down payment on a newer truck.....too much cost involved in doing that type of swap when you figure in the computers and all that **** your gonna need to make it work

Welcome to da forums,

The easiest way would be a rebuild with lots of HP extras added as you go thru the 4.7, however...

$1800 is a good price and I can see why that is drawing you to it, but what condition is the hemi in?

If you have the cash - time - tools - access to crunched rams - and will power to make it work, I say go for it.

Oh and either way post pics cuz we love pics here.
