Default HELP! Mickey Thompson Baja ATZ??

I know I'm getting probably a little annoying on this subject now, but I'm having a hard time making the right choice finding a good winter tire for winter. Right now I run 35/12.5/17 Dunlop Mud Rover tires on my 2001 Dodge Ram Off-Road Edition. The tires look great on the truck, and I love them, BUT...this tire will not do good in snow because of its size and tread. I need a smaller tire for winter, something that will do great on ice and snow. Most people tell me to go with the BF Goodich All-Terrain, but I don't like that tire, its too generic and nothing special for winter. So firstly, what does everyone think about the Mickey Thompson ATZ's, are they good on ice and snow and can they be ran as a smooth riding all-season tire? The Mickey Thompson comes in the size I want for winter (285/70/17), but heres my question. Could I run a mickey thompson baja atz in a 35/12.5/17 during the winter, or is that just too big and unsafe? The only reason I ask is because I dont want to buy a nice tire like a Mickey Thompson Baja ATZ in a size that I would only want to use during the winter. The ATZ looks very nice in every department, and I'd prefer to run it all the time in the 35/12.5/17 size. But if it that size is too big and unsafe for winter, then I'll have to just get the ATZ in the 285/70/17 size for the winter, and then run my 35" Dunlops Spring-Fall. I just know I'd want to go back to the 35" size as soon as winter is over though because I think the 35" size looks great on the truck and looks very proportional. SO final question, is the Baja ATZ in a 35" size too big for the winter? Also, is the ATZ good in snow and on ice and is it a smooth tire (I'd like a tire that could be run year-round and won't rumble at high speeds like the Dunlop Mud Rover)? I know I'm being persistent with this whole winter thing, but I want to make sure I do it right. This truck is very tall and top heavy and I want to be safe during the winter times (I also want to prove my parents wrong that this truck is awesome in the snow, when i first got it they were pissed and said it was too top heavy lol!). Thanks guys!

pro comp xtreme at's... have them, bought them & rims used with about 1000miles on them, now have 50k on them and still have at least 10k miles left on them, maybe more. Drove them in snow, shallow mud and obviously on wet pavement. they have never let me down and worked really well under all conditions. I highly recommend them.

Yeah that is a very nice tire, very expensive though, I'm sure it's worth it. I also was look at the Pro Comp Xterrain AT. That looked very nice as well. They advertise the tires you have as superior in mud and snow, and quite on the highway, so that's really cool. I'll definately put that in my back pocket. Do you think running that tire you have in a 35" tire is too big for the winter though??

nope, I'd run it year round. as I mentioned the only mud mine have been thru was shallow. here in CA mud is not something we're coming across on a regular basis...

edit: wanted to add that although it's an expensive tire, if you get 50~60k out of it, it becomes cheeper than 2 sets of a tire that you only get 25~30k out of...

what size are you running in the tire you have in your picture? So you think a 35/12.5/17 tire in the pro comp would be safe in the winter and on ice if i ran it as an allyear round tire??

I have 325-60-18's 33's, no tire is good on ice unless it has studs in it IMO, but i'm no expert, and have little experience... I'm a west coaster... as for an all year tire, I think it's a great choice especially since I have 50k on my set and still plenty of tread left.
