Default Basics of 100K mile tune up

I'm doing a tuneup for my sisters 95 Neon Highline. I figure it need
oil, oil filter, tranny fluid, tranny filter, O2 sensors (is there one
by the CAT?) and perhaps brakes but she's on a show string budget so we
may pass on that.

Anything else I should do? Cooling system appears fine so I will leave that alone.

Oh, the tranny also shakes when in drive but not in 2nd or 1st gear. You think the tranny flush will help that?

Oh, another thing. After the tranny starts shaking it has trouble
accelerating. I assumed maybe the fuel filter (another thing I will
change!) or a clogged CAT but she just passed the sniffer test on a
smog so I would assume that isn't it. She did fail the entire test
because of the SES light though.

Yes, there is a 2nd O2 sensor after the cat. If it hasn't already been done, replace the timing belt. I have heard of trannys getting worse after a fluid/filter change, so beware but it is suppose to be done at 100K miles. Don't forget the air filter, spark plugs and wires. Lube the chassis and check the PCV valve and the brake pads and rotors.

Many thanks for the advice!

I'm concerned about the tranny. I've heard similar things but I'm at a loss of what to do.

I install a coolant tee with a cap inline with the heater hose , you hook up the water hose to it and force flush ur system with clean water after a you drain the radiator and refill and pour in a Rad cleaner. You can fint the kit at any autoparts store .Kit $5, cleaner $4, and I also use a prestone coolant lube , not sure if it helps , but i have 168,000 miles on my engine and i flush once a year adding the lube and antifreeze , and she still has the same water pump from the factory another thing ( please comment if you have a different opinoin) but i removed the factory coolant ( red ) and replaced it with the green , just because the red looks too much like the rust deposits , I mean how am i supposed to know if I have rust , If it looks like rust ! 71 was right , timeing belt is a must at that mileage , and the fuel filter also if not in the tank .

I cannot recall what the big deal and difference is with the red antifreeze, but I do remember that you are not suppose to mix the green and the red. I imagine that changing from one to the other is ok though. I also never liked the fact that it was red for the same reason, you can't see any rust until it's too late and then it's big flakes and your screwed.

I think Red coolant simply last longer and is less prone to breaking down in the engine. It's also a little more expensive than standard green coolant but there's really very little benefit to run the red coolant as opposed to green.
