Default What would instantly trigger S

Working on my sisters 95 Neon. She has an SES light but I have no way
of scanning it (I will try Pepboys today). She had a shop disconnect
the battery and reset the PCM but that only removed the SES light for a
week. Now it turns on the moment you accelerate. I know I'm being vague
but any guesses what this could be?

It has a self checking PCM/computer, so you do not need a scanner. Turn the key to the "ON" position(not the start position)and back to the "OFF" position 3 times leaving it in the "ON" position on the 3rd time. Now watch the SES light(it will go out) then it will start to flash a series of 2 digit codes with a pause between each number and between each code.(example:flash, pause, flash, flash, pause, flash, flash, paus e,flash/this would be codes 12 and 21)Write down the codes, when it flashes the code 55 that means the self test is done. Then call your local dealer, ask for the service department and tell them what your car is and ask what the codes are. Good luck. <img border="0" src=smileys/smiley2.gif border="0">

Thanks. This worked like a charm. I got a 32 and 51. Anyone know what that is for?

EDIT: Nevermind. Googled it and got an EGR Error and Fuel System Lean.
Now, would fuel system lean mean I should get new O2 sensors?

I just ordered the EGR valve. We'll see if that helps or not.

The lean condition code is probably why the SES light comes on when under acceleration. The lean condition could be caused by a bad or clogged fuel injector, fuel pressure regulator, dirty fuel filter, weak fuel pump, bent, crimped or obstructed fuel line, etc. As you mentioned it could be that you just need a new O2 sensor.<edited><editID>71ROADRUNNER</editID><editDate>37998.2122337963</editDate></edited>
