I am hooking up a cd player into my 89 dakota. I put an inline fuse on the positive and grounded the negative but there's no power to my stereo. What gives?
don't know what you mean.......? I put a 30 amp fuse in and just ran the power wire to the harness that came with the stereo and the ground on the harness to the ground on the vehicle.
there's no power whatsoever to the stereo though. and where should i hook the red wire from the stereo to exactly? What's the difference if i hook it straight to the battery?
You hook up the yellow wire to the battery or any constant 12volt source. The red wire needs to be hooked up to a 12volt source that is only on when the key is turned on.
Hook the yellow to the pink factory wire. Hook the red to the red factory wire. Or run the yellow wire to the battery...it is up to you.
i don't have a red factory wire so where should i connect the red wire? I know it needs to be a 12 volt source that comes on when the truck is turned on but i'm not very electrically inclined.
I would jst run it to the fuse box. Jst pull whatever fuse you find that works out and put the wire into where the fuse was and then put the fuse back in. Or you could run a switch, but its kinda a pain to turn it on and if you forget to turn it off...well then your battery would drain.
