Nice times but--
Very fast times by some very fast cars. But are the cars really comparable for so called production cars? The Corvette was bone stock except for some safety equipment. Can that be said for the Viper and the Lexus, ie: tires, brakes, suspension & tuning? (For $375,000 the Lexus ought to be fast.) Where would the Viper's time be without that huge race car wing?

I am a huge Mopar fan... I've owned only Dodge vehicles all my life, minus one Honda I bought on the cheap when I was a kid... However, I have to disagree, not only with this statement, but, with Lexus and Porche and every other manufacturer that "claims" to hold the Nürburgring Nordschleife fastest lap...
The current, and still reigning, fastest production lap time record at the North Loop is the Radical SR8 LM, at 6m 48s. Now, if you look at the car, it does look quite "racy". However, it is fully equipped with turn lamps, a license plate holder, and the other items needed to make it road legal.
Is the 2010 Viper ACR the record holder for American made production cars? Granted. And it's great to see, as the Viper ACR is one beautifully made American car. I love the look, and the sound of the 8.4 L V10 is amazing. But, the fastest worldwide, no... The Gumpert Apollo Sport even has it beat by about 30s on the North Loop, sadly.
However, if you read the Wikipedia article for the Viper, in the ACR section, it also uses the same "record holding lap time" when in fact the below Wiki article in regards to lap times shows that it has not been. The fastest lap was 6:55 by the Radical SR8 in 05. That was bested by 7 seconds by the Radical SR8 LM in 09. The 2010 Viper ACR currently sits at position 4, behind both of these and the aforementioned Gumpert Apollo Sport.
A great feat for American auto engineering, definately... However, misguided claims at the "fastest lap on the Nürburgring Nordschleife" are definately that, misguided...

And, for the last poster, asking about that huge rear wing... Well, in fact, for $101k, you too can own a 2010 Viper ACR... They built them on the same assembly line as the standard SRT10 Vipers, and for 2010, 30 were made for consumer purchase.
