Well, that answers that. It has been confirmed by Merchionne that the diesels are coming. 3.0L V6 diesel is on its way.

It's been said Marchionne is not a fan of hybrids, and is behind diesel power 100%. I would buy a new 300/Charger if it had that 3.0L V6. Especially if it had AWD...hint hint any Chrysler folks that may read this.
Maybe the 300 for the yet-to-be-acquired wife, and the Charger for myself. Yeah, I like the sounds of that.

The nice thing is that these diesel engines in the various different vehicles have been in service in Europe for sometime so most if not all of the technical issues should have been resolved.

diesel golf
I've had my diesel golf 5 speed for some years and love it. [100,560miles on it] I own a ram, golf, volvo, kaw. I work out of my truck/golf. My golf gets 35 mpg around town and 50 on the highway. I can put a 6' ladder on the roof rack and go to it. when I don't need to use the truck for supplies, the golf does just fine. it has a cat on it for 'clean diesel' tech. it starts fine in the cold of SW PA winters. I just changed the original battery out in Sept. it is from 2002!! It has only 1 battery.

I had the 2.8 diesel in a 2006 jeep liberty. I averaged 21 mpg canadian unloaded in the city. I got 19 mpg when I pulled trailer with approximately 4000lbs also city driving.
I had the egr replaced on warranty once but other than that the little diesel was awesome. It had a 5 spd auto. I can just imagine this little diesel with the new 8 spd auto.
Oil changes were every 10,000 kms and cost $106 cdn.
I see small diesels and 8spd auto's the way to go in the future. Cheap, reliable and have superior longevity to gas engines.
Ram or dakota with a small diesel and 8spd should push close to 30mpg.

It depends on the state. The Feds have the same tax as gasoline, but a lot of states tax diesel higher because of the damage large trucks supposedly cause. But here in Az, trucks under 20k # pay the same tax as gasoline. It's really funny too. I have a 30K # International dump truck with a gas engine and I get about the same mileage as a diesel(9-11 mpg), but pay far less for fuel.

The problem with this country is we put all this technology on our vehicles and have never increased longevity or fuel mileage. The VW's got 50 mpg in 1980 and by now we should be running 75 mpg with out sneezing. We have learned to lighten the vehicle with no advantage. It may be EPA's fault but a least they are not as strong as they proposed in the 80's. It is the major greed that affects our prices because someone might have good living if we give them decent prices. Mr Iakoka was the first to set the greed in action with bonuses he should have paid the workers/salesman for making/selling the products.
